One upon a time you and your friends are mercenary brain-hackers. Alongside the widespread adoption of cyber-brains, brain-hacking has become a lucrative business.
And every day, you and your friends brain-hack for clients of all kinds. Memory theft, identity theft, and data wiping are some of the standard services your team provides.
Until one day, a mysterious woman named Fei, hires your team to destroy some data inside the mind of chief cyber-brain architect in the mega-corporation which invented and popularized the cyber-brain; easily your highest profile job. She gives you a virus to target and destroy the data.
And because of this, your team captures the target and enters his mind. You begin to learn that Fei, cofounded this corporation and had a falling out with her partner when she concluded that cyber-brains would give the average human too much power. You also see another perspective of the central question from within the chief architect’s cyber-brain.
Until finally, you and your friends find the memory module which stores the brain-upgrade plans. You and your friends decide whether to back up the source code to your inventory before activating the virus. (this saves the amount of work necessary to have two different versions of cyberbrain escape and Fei can remain unaware of your backup.
The virus infects more than just the memory module and begins destroying the hacking victim’s mind as well as your avatars in the construct. You and your friends scramble to solve puzzles to escape. You were betrayed!
